Things I have learned about nutrition in the last 5 years

The great thing about health and fitness is that I am always learning. We are all on a journey, and it’s one of development and understanding your own body.


Over the past five years, I have learned a lot as a fitness coach, so today, I want to share with you five of the most important things I have learned about nutrition.


1️⃣ Calorie intake

This is the biggest thing that affects people. From building muscle or dropping body fat, it’s all about getting the balance right. As your fitness coach, I will make sure your weekly calorie intake is right for your current body condition and your fitness goals.


2️⃣ Consistency

It’s super important to be consistent. It is all about building good habits and turning them into a way of life. It’s difficult at first, but patience and persistence are key.


3️⃣ Quality of food

There are so many benefits to gain by consuming wholesome foods. Your digestion will be better. Your skin will be better. Plus, your food will taste better too. Sounds cliche, but you are what you eat!


4️⃣ Cheat Meals / Off-plan meals

Now.. who doesn’t love a filthy burger and chips, or fully loaded pancakes with tons of Nutella?


BUT.. that is temporary satisfaction. You enjoy it for a few minutes, but then you feel bloated, you crave more, you feel sluggish, and it can often be harder to get back on track.


Now, I never tell my clients they can never eat their favourite foods again! This is a lifestyle change, not a diet fad. So, if you want treats a couple of times a year to satisfy cravings, I am all for it, so long as it is the odd treat! Otherwise, they’re not worth it, but its totally up to you - a lot of my clients don’t have cheat meals because it makes it too difficult for them to get back on track.


Timing is everything here, and I will let you know on your journey once we’re at the stage for the odd cheat meal.


5️⃣ Know yourself!

Know where your habits lie. We’re all different. Some people boredom eat, for example. As a fitness coach, I help people to understand their triggers.


6️⃣ Planning Your Meals

Failure to prepare is preparing to fail!


7️⃣ Bad Days

Be aware, these do happen! But let’s not turn a bad day into a bad week.


So this is just a very basic list of things I have learned over the past 5 years about nutrition. I hope this helps you and I do think if you can apply these to your routine, you will achieve your goals!
